How do I open .zip files?

  • WINDOWS XP AND VISTA USERS:
Windows XP and Vista can expand .zip files and folders directly. Just save the file to the Desktop or to another folder, then double-click the .zip file to expand it to that location.

  • OTHER WINDOWS USERS:
You can use any decompression software like WinZip to open the files. If you'd like an easy-to-use, free software program, try TUGZip or 7-Zip.
After you've installed the zip program, just save the .zip file you want to open to the Desktop or to another folder, then double-click the .zip file to open it.

  • MAC OS X 10.3+ USERS:
Mac OS X versions 10.3 and higher can expand .zip files and folders directly in the Finder. Just save the file to the desktop or to another folder, then double-click the .zip file to expand it to that location.

  • OTHER MAC OS USERS:
You'll need StuffIt Expander to extract the documents from the attached .zip file. Expander is a free utility. If you don't have it, you can download it here.
Please note that Expander is part of the larger StuffIt Standard package that is not free. Once you install the above package, you can drag to the Trash everything but StuffIt Expander. After you've installed StuffIt Expander, just save the .zip file you want to open to the Desktop or to another folder, then double-click the .zip file to expand it to that location.
